V-tex (TM) for Fuel Gas Cleaning

Generating renewable energy from waste is a growing industry. Generally these methods use gas fuel derived from waste to power gas engines, generators or burners. The gas is derived by either hot or cold methods as follows:

1. Gasification of organic waste produces a hot fuel gas that is then cooled and cleaned before being fed into a gas engine. As the gas is cooled, various Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) begin to condense (usually between 90-120⁰C) forming a viscous sticky substance (like tar) that leads to fouling of the system’s equipment.

2.Biogas is produced by the anaerobic digestion of organic waste materials. These gasses are cool and contain fewer condensable compounds. However, they contain other compounds which lead to fouling of gas systems. These include various sulphide compounds (hydrogen sulphide, sulphur dioxide), ammonia and VOC’s (styrenes and xylenes).

In both cases, the power plant engineer needs to remove these compounds from the fuel gas in order to reduce the maintenance requirements on his system. In the case of hot fuel gas, it must also be cooled to facilitate removal of the condensable compounds. V-tex™ is a highly efficient scrubbing technology which provides solutions to issues such as these and offers many other benefits:
- V-tex™ scrubs at very high efficiencies at all gas flow rates, even where variations in flow rate occur. This means you can optimise your engine performance without worrying about the gas-cleaning.
- V-tex™ is proven to successfully capture acids, alkalis, polar VOC's, H2S, BXT and tars
- V-tex™ gives scrubbing efficiencies of >99.9% for acid andalkali gases
- Using V-tex™ can lead to considerable cost savings due to the reduced loss of scrubbing product by evaporation.
- All V-tex™ units are fabricated from materials that are suitable for the fuel-gas being treated.

Advantages of improved fuel gas quality:
- Reduced engine or turbine downtime due to greater generator availability and fewer maintenance stops.
- Cleaner gas resulting in lower system maintenance costs and downtime.
- Protects system pipe work and gas storage tanks as well as the engine or turbine.

Safety:
- Due to the constant, intense mass transfer generated by the V-tex™ during its scrubbing operation, its efficiency is not affected by variations in gas flow rates.
- As V-tex™ cannot block - pressure-relief and vacuum-relief are automatic.

Low standing costs:
- V-tex™ can start-up instantaneously and there are no standing costs associated with its emergency operation.
- V-tex™ operates with no moving parts or packing to achieve its high gas removal efficiency. It requires virtually no maintenance.

Low installation costs:
- V-tex™ is compact and lightweight thus making it easy to retrofit, either at ground level or on top of the storage tank.
